Vornado Recalls Steamfast and Brookstone Travel Steam Irons

What: Steamfast Home & Away Travel Steam Irons and Brookstone Steam Bug Travel Steam Irons

Who: Vornado Air LLC

Why: The travel irons power cord can become damaged near the cord bushing and can lead to overheating, posing a fire and burn hazard. Cord Damage near the bushing may also result in exposed copper wire, which poses a shock hazard. 

Where: The travel irons were sold nationwide from January 2009 through May 2018 (the Brookstone between 2009 and 2013) at Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, and online on Amazon.com, Vornado.com, Steamfast.com, and other online retailers. They sold between $13 and $30.

  • How Many Units Were Recalled?

    According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), roughly 317,000 Steamfast Home & Away Travel Steam Irons and Brookstone Steam Bug Travel Steam Irons have been recalled in the United States due to Fire, Burn, and Shock Hazards. Roughly an additional 5,000 steamers have been recalled in Canada. 

  • How Do I Know If My Steamer Has Been Recalled?

    To identify the products that are part of this recall, customers can head to Vornado's website or Steam fast's website and click on the “Product Recalls” tab to complete a recall form that will allow them to identify if they are in possession of a recalled steamer. Customers will find a silver sticker on the back of the Travel Steam Iron that includes the TYPE and SERIAL NUMBER. Below we have listed the serial number and production date codes for those products included in this recall. 

    Steamfast Home and Away Travel Steam Irons with Dual Voltage

    • SF-717 JAN08–MAR17 or 01/08 and 03/17
    • SF-720 JAN08 –MAR17 or 01/08 and 03/17
    • SF-727 JAN17 

    Brookstone Steam Bug Travel Steam Irons

    • 606335

    The length of the cord bushing can also identify the recalled Steamfast and Brookstone irons. The recalled irons come with a black or gray cord bushing that extends less than an inch from the enclosure along the power cord. If you find that your steamer has been recalled, the company asks that you immediately stop all use of the product for your safety.

  • What Injuries Have Been Reported?

    According to Vornado, they have received 50 reports of incidents over the travel iron, that include 38 reports of the power cord sparking, smoking, and burning. Customers have also reported other signs of overheating, as well as 12 reports of cord damage. No injuries have been reported at this time.

  • How Do I Register for a Refund?

    Customers can register their travel irons on Vornado or Steam Fasts website. There they can provide the requested information, as well as learn how to safely disable their travel iron and upload a photo of their product for verification. Customers can also complete the registration process over the phone by calling the Vornado Recall Team toll-free at 866-827-3362. 

    Once the registration is complete and verified, customers can expect a refund check for $19.99 at the address provided in about 3-4 weeks.
