Over 59,000 Dorel Car Seats Recalled Due to Seat Anchor Safety Issues

This month, roughly 60,000 car seats are recalled by the Dorel Juvenile Group due to an issue with their car seat's lower anchors. According to the report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), due to the faulty seat anchors increasing the risk of injury in a car crash, they have decided to issue a recall for multiple models of the Safety 1st and Maxi-Cosi car seats. The issues surrounding the faulty Dorel car seats involve the seats' lower anchors, which can fail during an accident or a crash, allowing the seat to detach. While Dorel has yet to receive any injury reports before the recall, this issue directly fails to comply with the federal safety requirements in place for child seats.

According to the recall, the seats were manufactured from May 2020 to February 2023. The NHTSA has estimated that 59,450 units were affected by the recall. The impacted car seats were sold in the U.S. and Canada. However, other car seat shipments were also made to other countries. The car seat company plans to issue out free replacement bases to those customers who have purchased the faulty car seats and will be contacting their customers via mail or email by April 7th, 2023. While Dorel has advised that owners of the recalled car seats can still safely use them, for added safety measures, they also recommend that they secure the car seats with the vehicle belts until the faulty bases are remedied.
