The PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer Waffle Maker Recall

Empower Brands has issued a recall notice for roughly 456,000 waffle makers after they received reports that under certain conditions, certain PowerXLTM Stuffed Wafflizers have expelled food products due to pressure buildup during the cooking process–typically when the waffle maker is overfilled, posing a burn risk to the user. If you find that you are in possession of one of the recalled waffle makers, the CPSC has issued a notice for consumers to “immediately stop using” the two recalled models.

No, the recall only involves the PowerXL Model ESWM02 and Model ESWM03 Stuffed Wafflizer waffle makers. The waffle makers can be identified by size, as the Model ESWM02 measures approximately 5 inches in diameter, and the Model ESWM03 measures 7 inches in diameter. Both have the PowerXL logo located on top of the waffle maker. The recently recalled waffle makers were sold in 11 colors, including: 

• Black
• Cinnamon
• Gray 
• White
• Lavender
• Lemon
• Ocean 
• Red 
• Sage
• Seafoam
• Slate

Consumers can also find the model numbers and the date codes printed on a tag attached to the power cord. The tag includes the date codes that are included in this recall. The waffle maker was imported by Tristar Products Inc. of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, on February 17, 2022, and after February 17, 2022, on behalf of Empower Brands, LLC of Middleton, Wisconsin. Price between $30 and $60, the products were sold in multiple stores nationwide, including Big Lots, BJ's Wholesale Club, Best Buy, The Home Depot, Target, Sam's Club, Walmart, Kohls, and other home goods stores. The waffle makers were also sold online on QVC, Walmart, Kohl's, and other online retailers from July 2021 through October 2022.

Due to the potential for food material to be expelled from the unit due to pressure buildup from steam and food material during cooking when a unit is overfilled and latched. When the unit is unlatched, the accumulated pressure release can potentially expel food material. According to the reports, there have been 44 reports of incidents, including 34 burn injuries, three of which required medical attention.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled waffle maker should head over to Empower Brands recall website to register their recalled item, or they can contact Empower Brands toll-free at 866-276-0063 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday. Consumers may also email them at wafflizerrecall@brandprotectplus.com PowerXL has also launched a recall page for the waffle maker where consumers can register their items. Once on the site, consumers can click on the "IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE" link at the top of the page for more information.

Once consumers have registered their recalled PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer waffle makers, Empower Brands will then send them a latch adaptor that can be installed on the Stuffed Wafflizer. The Latch adaptor will release the latch when it recognizes a set internal pressure level, which will stop any potential burn hazards.
