Food Poisoning Shigella
It's scary to think about your favorite meal potentially causing harm to you or a loved one. Unfortunately, even though standards are set for restaurants and food distributors to ensure the goods you're consuming are safe, according to the CDC, Shigella, a bacteria most commonly associated with food poisoning, causes an estimated 450,000 infections in the United States each year. Those who are exposed to this bacteria are not only victims of contaminated food but are also potentially at risk of losing their financial stability due to medical bills or the inability to work and support those who depend on them. At Morgan & Morgan, we understand how difficult life can become after consuming food contaminated with the Shigella bacteria. Our team of highly experienced attorneys wants to fight for you to get back what you deserve so you can focus on what matters most. If you think that you or a loved one have been exposed to Shigella due to a food distributor’s negligence, then fill out our free, no-obligation case evaluation form, and one of our food poisoning attorneys will contact you.

What Are the Symptoms for Shigella?
While it is typical to experience a bit of discomfort when unknowingly eating contaminated food, it can be the difference between life or death when it comes to identifying the symptoms of food poisoning. This is why at Morgan & Morgan, we believe it is crucial for victims to know and spot the different signs of a food-related illness like Shigella. Symptoms of Shigella poisoning will most commonly develop up to one to three days after exposure to the Shigella bacteria and will usually go away within five to seven days. It is also possible to get Shigella and experience no little to no symptoms and still be contagious to others—a condition commonly referred to as asymptomatic. For those victims who are showing signs of having the bacteria in their system, most commonly, they may experience symptoms that include, but are not limited to, diarrhea, tenesmus, fever, stomach cramps, and rectal spasms.
If you believe you or a loved one are experiencing symptoms of Shigella or a food-related illness, immediately seek out medical attention. After you've recovered treatment, contact our food poisoning attorneys to learn more about how we may be able to help you.
