Moen Recalls Battery Back-Ups for Flo Smart Water Monitors Due to Fire Hazard

On April 13, 2023, Moen, a company known and centered around their diverse selection of designed kitchen and bath faucets, showerheads, bath safety products, and other home appliances, in collaboration with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada, have issued a recall for one of their products due to reports of potential fire hazards. According to the recall posted on their website, based on the information they collected from their customer feedback systems, in rare instances, the Flo Smart Water Monitor Battery Backups, Model 920-001, has been found to overheat, posing a fire hazard.

Since the recall has been issued, Moen claims there have been three reports of backup batteries that have overheated and caught fire. However, from those reports, there were no injuries, and only minor property damage has been documented to have been caused by the Flo Smart Water Monitor Battery Backups. Customers who have shopped with Moen and believe they may have an affected product can file their claim by completing their web form found on the Moen website or by contacting the Moen Smart Water Support Team at 844-633-8356.

Customers can identify whether or not they have the Flo Smart Water Monitor Battery Backups by the following:

  • If they have the dark gray rectangular battery with the FLO logo printed on the lower right-hand side.
  • A sticker showing the status of the light on the battery is printed on the lower left-hand side.
  • If the battery sticker has the model number 920-001.

Please note that the recall only involves the Flo Smart Water Monitor Battery Backups, all other aspects of the product, including the Flo Smart Water Monitor, the Shutoff itself, and other included accessories, are still safe for you to use. The Flo Smart Water Monitor that included the Battery Backups were sold from August 2019 through November 2022 at Lowe’s, The Home Depot, and other stores nationwide, including online retailers like Amazon.com, for about $250 for the battery.
