Causes of Injury
A variety of accidents occur on job sites. The following are the top four causes of construction site accidents, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):
Falls: Construction workers often find themselves performing their occupational duties at great heights. Even with the proper safety equipment, they are still at risk for injury or worse in a fall.
Struck By Equipment: The equipment used at construction sites can vary greatly, but all of it has the potential to cause injury. Even small tools, such as hammers and wrenches, can be dangerous when falling from an elevated location.
Caught-In/Between: Workers will sometimes be required to create trenches within their job site to access certain zones. If these trenches are improperly secured, they have the potential to cave in and trap workers inside.
Electrocution: Electrical work at a construction site introduces an elevated risk of injury. Those responsible for completing the work can be severely burned or electrocuted.
Negligence
In some cases, an accident may be caused by the negligence of a supervisor or employer. Failure to properly train workers, maintain equipment, or adhere to state and federal laws are examples of negligence that can result in devastating injuries.
Workers count on their superiors to implement and maintain proper safety procedures. If you believe your employer’s negligence played a part in your injury, contact our Houston office for assistance.
Establishing Fault
While general contractors are commonly found to be at fault for construction accidents, other parties can be liable, too. Determining who is at fault is key, and our construction accident attorneys understand how to do just that. We can analyze all aspects of your accident, including the different parties involved and relevant safety rules, to identify who was responsible for your injury and get the best possible outcome in your case.
