Hi, I’m Lisa McNary with Morgan & Morgan. It’s really important that we talk about the tactics insurance companies use to try to avoid paying full and fair compensation to people who’ve been injured in automobile crashes and slip-and-falls. Insurance companies often try to make early settlements for just a couple hundred dollars to deter people from speaking with attorneys about their rights. Some people are even often surprised to find a check in the mail and a release attached, not knowing what it’s for. Unsuspectingly cashing that money, not knowing they’ve settled their case. It’s very important that if you’ve been injured in a car crash, you don’t accept any settlement until you have a full understanding of the scope of your injuries and what your future treatment needs are going to be. They try to discourage people from getting medical treatment when they call asking for help. For instance, many people call insurance companies when they need to seek medical care. They don’t know where to go and they don’t know who’s gonna pay for it. A lot of insurance companies take that opportunity to delay people’s treatments. Once there’s a delay in your treatment, they then argue because of that delay, it shows you weren’t really hurt. Believe it or not, the insurance companies then use those delays and call them “gaps in treatment.” And they argue that because you didn’t get immediate medical care, you weren’t really hurt that badly. Insurance companies often also look through those medical records and call those bills “unreasonable”--as if anyone has any say in how much a doctor is going to charge them for treatment. So if you have been injured in a car crash or a slip-and-fall, it’s important to call us at Morgan & Morgan. We have over 30 years of experience, and we can help you fight the insurance company against their tactics to keep you from getting full and fair compensation for what you’ve been through.
