A woman from Tooele, Utah, died in a collision with a tractor trailer on Sept. 3, KSL reported. The crash occurred at about 6:55 a.m. near Grantsville and the State Route 138 exit on I-80. The woman, identified as Kristina L. Martinez, 53, was driving a 2000 Chevy Blazer at 35 miles per hour because it had a separated tire. The car’s speed was 45 mph below the speed limit. A semitruck traveling at 75 mph rear-ended the automobile, causing it to spin off the road and roll. Martinez was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fox 13 reported that the Freightliner tractor trailer struck a median after hitting the car and then rolled as well. The injuries of the unidentified semitruck driver were minor and treated at the scene. There is no word whether they will be charged with any crime.

Large truck crashes account for about 11% of all motor vehicle crashes, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Thirty-two percent of such accidents occur on interstates and freeways. The victims of truck collisions are often the occupants of the smaller vehicle, given the weight difference. If you or a loved one has been the victim of a large truck crash, you may be due compensation for medical bills, lost wages, funeral costs, and more.
