One Hurt When Dump Truck Shears FedEx Semi in Wisconsin
A driver is in the hospital after his dump truck collided with a FedEx tractor trailer, CBS 58 reported. The crash happened Sept. 16 at the corner of National and Calhoun in New Berlin, Wisconsin. The dump truck tore open the side of the semi, spilling packages all over the road. The condition of the dump truck driver is not known.
Police said the accident occurred when the FedEx semi was turning onto Calhoun. The dump truck hit the trailer shortly before 1 p.m. and partially ripped off its wall, crushing several of the packages inside. Some parcels wound up in a large pile near the truck’s back wheels. Neither FedEx nor the company that owns the dump truck has released a statement.
Large-truck crashes account for about 11% of all motor vehicle accidents, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Thirty-two percent of such incidents occur on interstates and freeways. Given the size, weight and stopping ability of 18-wheelers, the victims in such collisions are often the occupants of any smaller vehicles involved. In 2017, 4,102 people died in large-truck crashes. If you or a loved one has been the victim in such an incident, you may be due compensation for medical bills, lost wages, funeral costs, and more.
