No-Spill Gas Cans Recalled

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), along with No-Spill, LLC, has announced the recall of approximately 7,500 No-Spill five-gallon gasoline cans. The gas canisters can leak at the black plastic collar where the spout attaches to the container, presenting a risk of burn hazards and fires.

The recalled gas cans carry the date codes AIP09202 though AIP09222; the code can be found on the bottom of the can. However, not all canisters in this date range have been affected. Available at hardware retailers, lawn and garden stores and via the internet, the recalled canisters cost approximately $30 and were sold between August 2009 and November 2009.

No-Spill released a recall update on January 26, reporting that five-gallon gas cans are only part of the recall if they leak when being tipped to pour the fluid. The company advises consumers to test their gas containers to establish if they leak and to stop using leaky cans immediately.

The CPSC has not received any injury reports linked to the recalled gas cans.
