Nine-Car Pileup Kills Man and Baby in Florida
A nine-car pileup on I-75 in Seffner, Florida, resulted in two deaths and four injuries on Aug. 5. According to the Tampa Bay Reporter, the accident occurred when a dump truck driven by Daniel Thomas Ragan approached slowing traffic in the southbound lane and collided with a Toyota Corolla and a commercial truck. The dump truck then tipped over onto a van. The overturned dump truck skidded and proceeded to damage two SUVs, two pickup trucks, and a sedan. According to WFLA, the driver of the van, David Garcia of Inverness, died at the scene. A group of bystanders attempted to save him, to no avail. A 2-month-old in another vehicle, driven by Fritzy Gaspard, also died of his injuries in a local hospital, while Gaspard and two other family members suffered minor injuries. Gaspard’s family went to the hospital, while the driver of the dump truck, who also suffered minor injuries, did not. The highway was closed for about six hours as emergency responders cleared the scene. The 74-year-old dump truck driver declined to comment about the crash for legal reasons. The Florida Highway Patrol said charges are pending for Ragan as the investigation continues. If found responsible, he may be responsible for compensating the victims of the crash and their families. If you’ve been injured in a crash, time may be running out to claim the compensation you deserve.
