Mushroom Mishap Causing Severe Illness – Morgan & Morgan Can Help

Though the brand had previously marketed its products to have proven health benefits, Diamond Shruumz chocolate bars, cones, and gummies have been reported to be giving its users a “bad trip” to the hospital. If you have any of these products in your own stash, it’s time to hit pause and find out the risks.

Over 60 illnesses, over 30 hospitalizations, and one death have now been linked to consuming Diamond Shruumz edibles. Symptoms have included seizures, central nervous system depression (loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness), agitation, abnormal heart rates, hypertension, nausea, and vomiting.

Prophet Premium Blends, the manufacturer behind the Diamond Shruumz products, has blamed toxic levels of muscimol, a chemical derived from mushrooms, as a potential culprit behind the hospitalizations.

The FDA said last month that its own testing of the products had turned up other hidden ingredients like psilacetin, sometimes nicknamed "synthetic shrooms," and derivatives of kava.

For this reason, the FDA issued a recall to prohibit the further manufacturing and sale of Diamond Shruumz products. However, the deadly edibles have remained on shelves at many smoke and vape shops, as well as retailers that sell hemp-derived products such as cannabidiol (CBD) or delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8 THC).

These unsafe products should have never gone to market, and retailers who have been issued a recall should not continue to act irresponsibly and knowingly put consumers at risk.

Why Are Diamond Shruumz Recalled?

Prophet Premium Blends of Santa Ana, California has recalled Diamond Shruumz Infused Cones, Chocolate Bars, and Gummies (Micro- and Mega/Extreme-Dose), because such products contain muscimol, a chemical found in mushrooms of the genus Amanita.

Muscimol could be a potential cause of reported symptoms and illnesses related to the use of Diamond Shruumz products. Reported symptoms have included those linked to seizures, agitation, involuntary muscle contractions, loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness, nausea and vomiting, abnormal heart rates, and hyper/hypotension.

At this time, there are 69 illnesses that have been reported. Prophet Premium Blends received two complaints regarding consumers becoming ill after consuming an entire chocolate bar. Prophet Premium Blends initiated the recall and has ceased the production and distribution of the Diamond Shruumz product line as the FDA and Prophet Premium Blends continues their investigation as to what is the cause of the serious adverse effects.
