Morgan & Morgan Wins $2.3 Million Verdict for Pediatric Nurse Injured in Orlando Crash
[Orlando, FL] – An Orange County jury Tuesday awarded a $2,316,992.03 verdict to a 41-year-old woman who suffered permanent injuries in a 2021 car crash in Orlando. Represented by Morgan & Morgan attorneys Ravin Sahadeo, Ryan Rudd, Brian McClain and Daniel Hales, the plaintiff declined the defense’s highest pre-trial settlement offer of $50,000 before ultimately being awarded the multi-million dollar verdict.
On June 8, 2021, the plaintiff was traveling east on State Road 408 and was waiting to take the exit onto Interstate 4 when a driver rear-ended her, causing several herniated discs in her neck and back and tearing the labrum in her shoulder. She sought to have her treatment covered by her uninsured/underinsured motorist carrier, Progressive, which refused. After reviewing the evidence, which included medical records showing the state of the plaintiff’s body before and after the crash, Orlando jurors awarded her the $2.3 million verdict despite attorneys hired by Progressive asking them to give her nothing.
“The story of this case is of a woman whose life was irreversibly changed by someone else’s negligence,” said attorney Ravin Sahadeo and Morgan & Morgan founder John Morgan. “Our client has two passions in her life — being a mom to her five-year-old son and working as a pediatric cardiology nurse — both of which she struggles with now due to her injuries. When pain colors every moment of your day, it deeply erodes your quality of life. We’re glad the jury understood the significance of these impacts on her life and agreed that the before-and-after comparisons we made were too compelling to ignore.”
The case was heard by Judge Chad K. Alvaro in the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida, Case No. 2022-CA-000069. Progressive was represented by attorneys Taira Towne, Bryan Yasinsac and Patrick Sloan of Wicker, Smith, O'Hara, McCoy & Ford, P.A.
