Morgan & Morgan is Investigating the Fireworks Software Data Breach Announced on or Around September 17, 2024

Morgan & Morgan’s industry leading data privacy attorneys are investigating Fireworks Software, Inc., (“Fireworks”) regarding its recent data breach (which may be referred to as a “data event” or “data security incident”). The Fireworks data breach involved sensitive personally identifiable information that may have been exposed to an unauthorized individual.

We are investigating, among other things, the following:

  • how Fireworks acquired the sensitive information;
  • whether Fireworks should have had the sensitive information;
  • whether and, if so, why Fireworks stored this sensitive information in an Internet-accessible environment;
  • whether Fireworks encrypted the sensitive information; 
  • whether Fireworks deleted sensitive information it no longer had a reasonable need to retain; 
  • whether Fireworks implemented appropriate and adequate security measures to protect the sensitive information; and
  • whether Fireworks has provided affected individuals adequate protection and compensation for any harms they have experienced as a result of the data breach.

Fireworks is a software company that provides customer relationship management services to higher education institutions, including Rowan College in Burlington County, New Jersey and Meridian Community College in Mississippi. On or about June 28, 2024, Fireworks became aware of unauthorized access within their network. Fireworks conducted an investigation, which, revealed that between June 3, 2024, and June 26, 2024, personal information was accessed or acquired by an unauthorized information. This information included full names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and alien registration numbers. Recently, Fireworks sent out data breach notification letters to those who were impacted by the breach.
