Morgan & Morgan Investigates Fraudulent Marketing by CRI Genetics
Morgan & Morgan’s industry leading consumer protection attorneys are investigating misleading marketing statements Santa Monica-based genetics testing company CRI Genetics made in the promotion of its DNA testing services.CRI Genetics, also doing business as OmniPGX, advertises, markets, distributes, and sells DNA test kits and ancestry and health and wellness reports to consumers nationwide.
The Federal Trade Commission and the Attorney General of California have announced that in the marketing of DNA testing products, CRI Genetics made a series of false or misleading statements to consumers, including: that they offer the most accurate and detailed DNA ancestry tests and reports on the market; that they have an accuracy rate of over 90% for ancestry details; and that they can tell consumers exactly where their ancestors came from going back more than 50 generations. The FTC also says that CRI Genetics falsely claimed to have patented an algorithm for its genetic matching process and has fabricated some of its customer reviews and testimonials. In addition, CRI is said to have used deceptive practices that caused customers to purchase products that they did not want.
CRA Genetics is paying a fine of $700,000 based upon the investigation of the FTC and the Attorney General of California and will also be barred from some of these deceptive business practices in the future.
