A woman was seriously injured after being hit by a FedEx truck in Rockville, Maryland on Monday afternoon, WTOP reported. According to Montgomery County Police, the incident happened in the parking lot of the Federal Plaza Shopping Center near Maryland Route 355. The driver of the truck reportedly stopped after hitting the woman.

Police are still looking into how the crash occurred. Thankfully, the woman is expected to survive. The incident called to mind a similar incident in Silver Spring, Maryland that happened two weeks prior. In that crash, a woman was struck by a U.S. Postal Service truck and died on the scene.

A collision with a delivery truck is not the same as a collision with a non-commercial vehicle. Because FedEx drivers are FedEx employees, as opposed to independent contractors, the company can be held liable for accidents that occur during the course of employment. This means that FedEx, or more likely FedEx’s insurance company, could be responsible for paying the injured party to cover damages that arise from the accident.

If you are injured by a commercial vehicle, you may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and permanent impairment. Unfortunately, profit-hungry insurance companies often try to deny liability claims. They may try to claim that you were responsible for the accident, that your injuries were pre-existing, and/or that the employee was not working at the time.
