A man is in the hospital after an explosion rocked his home Aug. 16, KWQC reported. The state of Iowa fire marshall is investigating the cause of the blast but suspects natural gas was to blame. Homeowner Danny Miller said the last thing he remembers before the explosion was lighting a candle. He was then blown out the back of the residence. The incident occurred on Highway 64 in Preston at about 11:43 a.m.

When first responders arrived on the scene, the house was fully engulfed in flames. Several law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and ambulance teams responded to the blaze, which took three hours to be brought under control. Miller was the only one inside at the time of the explosion; his wife and daughters were thankfully elsewhere. According to Our Quad Cities, he ran onto the street, where a man driving a dump truck stopped abruptly and called 911. Miller was airlifted to a hospital in Iowa City for severe burn injuries.

The Miller family is collecting donations to help get back on its feet.
