Honoring Tim Morgan: The Legacy That Built Morgan & Morgan

John Morgan and his brother Tim Morgan

“Tim’s accident was the single worst day of my life. And now last Saturday was,” John Morgan recalled in his eulogy for his brother.

Tim Morgan, the brother of Morgan & Morgan founder, John Morgan, was the heart behind the vision that built our firm. Upon Tim’s recent passing, John spoke of his brother with admiration and love in a moving eulogy.

Tim Morgan’s life took a dramatic turn when he suffered a catastrophic spinal cord injury in the prime of his youth. In an instant, everything changed—not just for Tim but for the entire Morgan family. Watching Tim navigate life as a quadriplegic, John witnessed firsthand the immense physical, emotional, and financial toll such injuries can take. It was through this lens that John saw the gaping void in legal advocacy for individuals and families facing similar battles.

Mourning this loss, John took a moment to celebrate the profound impact Tim had on shaping a mission to fight for justice. John Morgan remembered that he didn’t know what he wanted to do in life until after tragedy struck for his brother. That’s when he realized his calling.

Tim’s injury was more than a personal tragedy; it was a call to action. John Morgan founded Morgan & Morgan with a mission to ensure that no one would face the injustices his family experienced without powerful legal representation. The firm was built on the belief that justice is a right, not a privilege—and that those who have been wronged deserve the resources to fight back against powerful corporations and insurance companies.

John wanted everyone at his brother’s memorial service to know, however, that he didn’t run Morgan & Morgan by himself, and that he and his brother had been side by side every day since the beginning. Tim Morgan ran the Morgan & Morgan national call center, where injured victims could receive the help they needed 24/7.

The brothers’ work together didn’t end at the firm, however. The two family members were also staunch advocates for Florida’s marijuana legalization and raising the state’s minimum wage. In his eulogy, John explains that Tim’s use of marijuana was a safer and more effective painkiller than any other medication given to Tim by his doctors.

They fought tenaciously to legalize medical marijuana in their home state, and today, over a million people in Florida have a medical marijuana card and—hopefully—less pain. John Morgan attributes this victory to his brother, concluding, “Without Tim, there’s no that.”

As we remember Tim Morgan, we are reminded of our responsibility to carry forward the mission he inspired. His life story underscores the importance of fighting for those who cannot fight for themselves and ensuring that no family has to endure what the Morgans did without support.

Tim’s legacy lives on in every case we take, every client we fight for, and every injustice we work to correct. His story reminds us that even in the face of tragedy, there is room for hope, advocacy, and change—and we can be the strength that others need in uncertain times.

As John put it, “He smiled through so much pain so that we wouldn’t suffer. He laughed so we wouldn’t cry.”
