Head-On Crash in Upstate NY Totals Van, Semi
A tractor trailer and a delivery van were completely destroyed in a head-on collision Sept. 6 in Norwich, New York, when the latter veered into oncoming traffic. The semi caught fire after the crash and was completely burnt by the time crews could put the fire out. The delivery van was crumpled and came to a stop on its side after the collision. The driver of the van was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, New York Upstate reported. The semi driver was not hurt. The accident occurred on State Highway 12 near Phetteplace Road just before 5 a.m. The highway was closed for seven hours, during which a detour was set up on the highway in both directions.
According to a New York State Police news release, the driver of the truck, 45, attempted to take evasive action when the delivery van veered into his lane. According to Press Connects, the 42-year-old delivery driver was transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City but was moved to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. New York State Police are still investigating the incident.
