David Oliver Named One of Orlando Magazine's Attorneys of the Year

While an attorney’s skills in and out of court can be described in many ways, having them deemed extraordinary enough to “bet the company” on is an accolade reserved for only the most talented and respected litigators.

In fact, “Bet-The-Company Litigation” is the very practice area for which Morgan & Morgan’s David Oliver was named Attorney of the Year in Orlando Magazine’s 2014 edition of its annual “Best Lawyers” compilation.

“I have been privileged over the years to have worked for and with some of the finest lawyers in Orlando. They each participated in my training and development as a trial lawyer,” Oliver said. “While the recognition is individual in nature, I would like for all of them to know that I appreciate their support and mentorship over the years.”

Published annually, Orlando Magazine’s “Best Lawyers” list is compiled from extensive peer-review surveys that asked lawyers in and around Orlando a simple question: “If you could not handle a case yourself, to whom would you refer it?”

“It’s a great honor, particularly because this is a peer review process,” said Oliver, who works with the firm’s Business Trial Group. “I know many excellent lawyers whose practice area falls within this category and to receive this recognition is truly rewarding.”

The 2014 edition of “Best Lawyers” breaks down more than 400 attorneys into 78 areas of practice, with only one attorney from each field and metropolitan area being nominated by Orlando Magazine as Attorney of the Year. Though Oliver was the only Morgan & Morgan lawyer nominated at the top of his field, four other attorneys with the firm — Paul SanGiovanni, Alexander Clem, and Keith Mitnik — were also selected as the best of the best by Orlando Magazine.

“There are a number of other lawyers at Morgan & Morgan that are truly the best lawyers in Orlando within their areas of practice,” Oliver said of his peers within the firm.  “This year I got the recognition, but I know that in the coming years many of my colleagues will share similar recognition.”

In addition to spotlighting the best and brightest lawyers from all specialties within the legal field, the “Best Lawyers” list, first and foremost, is meant to provide consumers and businesses with a guide to selecting attorneys with not only established track records, but also with proven reputations as recommended by their peers.

According to Oliver, his inclusion in Orlando Magazine’s list is not only a referendum on his own abilities, but is also representative of Morgan & Morgan’s reputation when it comes to protecting consumers.

“Corporate defendants always try to gauge whether the lawyer on the other side has the skill, ability and resources to convince a jury to return a formidable verdict,” Oliver said. “While this honor reflects my own abilities as a litigator, it is also indicative of the fact that corporate America knows that Morgan & Morgan has the resources to go toe-to-toe with them.”
