Franics Scott Key Bridge, a major bridge in Baltimore, collapsed after being struck by a freighter early Tuesday morning, March 26, 2024. A large section of the bridge fell into the Patapsco River, taking several people down with it.
Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace said emergency personnel removed two people from the water—one was in very serious condition and the other was uninjured. He also mentioned that up to 20 people could have fallen into the water.
The Baltimore City Fire Department described the collapse as a “mass casualty incident.”
Authorities opened an investigation after a 948-foot Singapore-flagged vessel crashed into the Key Bridge at about 1:30 a.m. Eastern time. Officials said there was no indication of an intentional act in the vessel strike and bridge collapse.
