Sex Crime

Sex Crimes are an ongoing problem in every society. Many of these crimes are violent in nature, and all of them can be both physically and mentally scarring.

Rape

Rape is the act of forcing any person to be involved in a sexual act against their will. Women are most commonly victimized in this way, and many are still minors. A report entitled "Victim, Incident, and Offender Characteristics" showed that 33% of rape victims were under 18 years of age.

Sexual Assault

Sexual Assault includes the crime of rape, as well as any scenario on which one person causes any individual to participate in an unwanted sexual experience. This includes inappropriate touching, attempted rape and child molestation.

Incest

Incest is the act of engaging in any form of sexual intercourse with a close family relative. While some states make allowances for "distant relatives", it is considered a serious crime in most places.

Necrophilia

Necrophilia encompasses any sexual act that is performed with a deceased person.

Sexual Abuse

Sexual Abuse is the crime of forcing a minor or a person with a "diminished mental capacity" into a sexual act. Any sexual activity that is conducted with a person who is not able to fully understand what is happening to them or make a decision on their own about sexuality is considered abuse.

Prostitution

Any time one person participates in a sexual act with another person in exchange for money or other forms of compensation, it is categorized as prostitution. Although it is illegal in many parts of the world, it can be found most everywhere and has been so prevalent in society that is has earned the nickname of "the world's oldest profession".

Paraphilia

Paraphilia is considered to be a sexual deviance or dysfunction. The term covers several sexually related activities, such as exhibitionism, sexual interest in minors (also known as pedophilia), frotteurism (rubbing up against a stranger in a sexually stimulating manner without their consent) and voyeurism.

Some sex crimes involve activities which are generally considered to be legal, but must be consensual or they may become forms of harassment. When one person makes advances or suggestions to another that are not requested or welcome, the act can be criminal even if the two people involved have a consensual relationship in other areas.
